I took a hike up a mountain not too far from my apartment. My plan was to visit several vernal pools distributed throughout the mountain. However, at the very first pool I checked, I was lucky enough to get a full days worth of encounters. I came across just two species, but two dozen Wood Frogs and around a dozen Jefferson Salamanders was sufficient for a few hours work. It’s not often that I come across so many Jefferson Sals during daylight hours. Great way to start the field season!
Until next time, there’s a world we can visit.
